OLED Panorama

2015 / Seoul Tower Plaza, South Korea

Challenge

After 40 years, the YTN Seoul Tower main building opened its doors to the public, offering stunning views of Seoul along with cutting-edge media art installations. We transformed the space into a cultural landmark with a 14-meter OLED panorama, featuring 48 OLED panels that create a view of Seoul's four seasons as if seen through a window. This installation provides a panoramic experience with a resolution 12 times higher than the latest UHD TV (impossible to achieve with a single camera). Our project included a 9-meter OLED tunnel and various media art sculptures, captivating visitors.

Frame Out

We used an out-curve panorama simulation to calculate visitor flow and sightlines, creating the illusion of looking through a window at Gyeongbokgung Palace. Using time-lapse photography, we condensed the changing seasons and 24 hours of Gyeongbokgung into a single immersive experience. The panorama, with a width equivalent to 12 UHD TVs, was captured using five DSLR cameras synchronized in a single rig. We edited 24-hour footage to seamlessly blend the four seasons and nighttime scenes, using over 80 computers for high-resolution 3D and 2D CG work. This innovative content was featured in various news articles.  Article
