At CES 2025, the world's largest IT exhibition held in the United States, LG Electronics showcased a new form of kinetic multimedia art called "Affectionate Inside" using transparent OLED TVs at their booth. This installation, composed of a kinetic structure made of 28 77-inch transparent OLED TVs combined with chandelier-like LED lighting, is an experimental form of media art. The 28 screens open and close in sync with the lighting and sound, creating a single, cohesive sculptural artwork.
4K wireless OLED T + motion mechanism + Chandelier Kinetic scenarios matching the ON/OFF transitions of the TV and its motion mechanism
Entrance of the CES LG booth. Immersive content and sound structure designed to be the first thing visitors experience
Content planning and execution to effectively highlight the OLED's picture quality, transparent material, and kinetic movement
The art video displayed on the TV, under the concept of "Affectionate Inside," visualized the self-illuminating pixels of OLED, which emit their own light, as 3D art. Through transparent OLED technology, we aimed to convey that the TV transcends its role as a screen simply displaying images, becoming a medium that evokes audience empathy and overcomes spatial limitations. By organically combining visual patterns and color harmony that change with the rhythm of the music, sound, and light, we sought to deliver a message that goes beyond the era where media technology aimed to convey information and emotions, and instead shows the value of an era where we look into the co-sensory inner world beyond the media.
This artwork was completed through collaboration with experts from various fields, resulting in a kinetic multimedia art piece of a new dimension. Solution+ designed and engineered the structure, and 3D visual artist Kimko, AI art lab H3ECO, interactive media art group Silo Lab, and composer & sound designer Kayip participated.
It is often thought that media art is simply video art. However, by harmonizing not only video but also space, structure, lighting, kinetics, and sound with the best teams in each field, we were able to create a new, multi-sensory media art experience.
