OLED Horizon

CES2023 / Las Vegas, USA

Challenge

In collaboration with LG, the global leader in OLED technology, we showcased a large-scale media art installation at CES 2023 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of OLED technology. “OLED Horizon," measuring 22.3m wide and 6m tall at the entrance, featured ultra-high-resolution content under the theme “Recording the Great Time of Earth,” and won the main award in the exhibition category at the Red Dot Design Awards, one of the world’s top three design awards.

A large gate made of 260 OLED signages with a 2000R curvature, creating a horizon effect (Resolution: 34,560 x 17,280px)

LG booth entrance (Width: 22.3m, Height: 6m)

- Designed to build anticipation for the exhibition

- Content tailored for the dynamic flow of visitors

- Celebrating 10 years of LG OLED with a grand media art display, showcasing the exceptional picture quality and vibrancy of OLED in a multi-dimensional structure

- Integrated sound and content to enhance the immersive experience

Process

Under the theme "Recording the Great Time of Earth," we captured the solar system, star trajectories, the Sahara Desert, Serengeti National Park, Iceland's Dynjandi Waterfalls, the Arctic glaciers, the famous Nazaré waves, the world's largest rain tree, and Antelope Canyon. The vast screen (Resolution: 34,560 x 17,280px) recreated and reimagined these awe-inspiring landscapes using panoramic and time-lapse footage along with 3D technology to provide a profound experience of Earth's wonders.

Frame Out

Seamless content integration and incredibly vivid images combined with the Dolby Atmos surround sound system offered an immersive viewing experience that captivated the CES audience. Since 2016, LG's large-scale OLED media art installations have been a must-see at CES. AFRAME has won three design awards at the Red Dot Awards in 2016, 2019, and 2023.

OLED Horizon is the culmination of ten years of OLED research and large-scale media experience. The footage of canyons, glaciers, Waterfalls in Iceland, Nazaré Waves, Banyan Trees, and Serengeti Lions was captured by traveling halfway around the globe. The planning, location selection, and filming process were unforgettable, and projecting the video onto a massive structure was an incredibly rewarding experience, especially with the recognition it received.
