OLED Media Art Tunnel

2015 / Seoul Tower Plaza, South Korea

Challenge

For the first time in 40 years, the main building of YTN Seoul Tower was opened to the public, transforming it into a new cultural space with stunning city views and advanced media art installations. We created a massive curved OLED tunnel using 77 OLED panels, achieving an image quality nearly 20 times that of the latest UHD TVs. Through multiple spatial simulations, we ensured that visitors would experience maximum immersion.

Frame Out

Inside the realistic Black Tunnel, we used time-lapse techniques to present rapidly flowing scenes of Seoul's nightscape and fantastical flower petals, providing visitors with an immersive experience that creates a sense of temporal and spatial displacement. To achieve ultra-high-definition panorama time-lapse effects (equivalent to the width of three UHD screens), we synchronized the shutters of four DSLR cameras mounted on a single rig. We captured stunning panoramic views of the Han River from the rooftop of a riverside apartment and used over 100 computers for real-time high-resolution 3D and 2D CG compositing, directing, and editing.
