OLED Media Art Wave

2015 / Seoul Tower Plaza, South Korea

Challenge

The main building of YTN Seoul Tower, previously restricted to the public for 40 years, was finally unveiled, transforming into a cultural space offering panoramic views of Seoul along with cutting-edge media art installations. The 24-meter-long ‘OLED Wave’ installed on the 4th-floor ceiling presented an innovative curved OLED panel setup. We aimed to achieve an image quality nearly 30 times that of the latest UHD TVs.

Transforming Seoul Tower Plaza into a new cultural landmark with media art installations

Frame Out

The media art showcased Korea's beauty through videos of lanterns, traditional Korean patterns (Dancheong), and Han River fireworks. To capture a vertically extended panoramic sky equivalent to ten UHD screens, we synchronized the shutters of eight DSLR cameras mounted on a single rig. The stunning Seoul sky was captured over 15 days, and high-resolution 3D and 2D CG compositing, directing, and editing were carried out using 120 computers. The integration of convex and concave panels was a world-first, drawing significant attention from visitors.
